Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's death the family of Ford, they were managed by her grandmother, mom and godparents. When she was a little girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessional disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days but Ford realized it wasn't the ideal place for her. Ford applied again for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth attempt she was eventually admitted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character in Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut when she appeared as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning in the Nineties. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedies, that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
